The 86,000 square foot replacement for the historic Travis Elementary School in the Woodland Heights neighborhood of Houston incorporates the original historic structure as a component of the larger new facility. Organized along two cross-axial streets, the program areas are separated into public and private domains. Classroom pods, organized by grade, and other special teaching areas are situated along the more private street. The design is sympathetic to the history of the original building and the neighborhood, but does not mimic any specific style.
