Four stone structures define a central living area in a house on Nevis, West Indies, marking a distinction between public and private functions as well as defining the concept of family as both individual and group. A palette of complementary colors is used to reinforce the spatial order. Rain-water is captured by a system of gutters and pipes and stored in a 50,000 gallon cistern upon which the house is situated. Operable windows allow for cross ventilation and stencil pattern bands provide highlight definition to each room.
